British author and scholar (1832–1898)

Their life

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who wrote under the pen name Lewis Carroll, was born on 27 January 1832 and died on 14 January 1898. He was an English author, poet, mathematician, photographer, and Anglican deacon, and he was known for his skill with wordplay, logic, and fantasy.

His best-known works are *Alice's Adventures in Wonderland* (1865) and its sequel *Through the Looking-Glass* (1871), which are regarded as important examples of Victorian literature. His poems "Jabberwocky" (1871) and *The Hunting of the Snark* (1876) belong to the genre of literary nonsense. Some of the illogical reasoning in Alice's world reflects his published work on mathematical logic.

Carroll came from a family of high-church Anglicans and trained for the church at Christ Church, Oxford, where he spent most of his life as a scholar
