Those are paper lanterns, and the ones in this photo look like the Vietnamese đèn lồng style, common in Vietnamese restaurants and homes. The round ones are the classic Chinese-style paper lanterns, pleated paper stretched over a bamboo or wire frame. The painted silk ones with tassels, in red, orange, green, yellow and blue, are closer to the Hội An silk lanterns from central Vietnam, which are hand-painted and hung in clusters for festivals and shops. Hội An is the town where they are most famous, and the lanterns there are made by hand in small workshops.

The mix in this room is a design choice. The pale paper spheres give a soft base, and the brighter silk lanterns add color at eye level, so the ceiling reads like a sky full of lamps. The wooden lattice panels above them are bamboo, which fits the same Southeast Asian look.

If you want to see more of the style, search for Hội An silk lanterns to see how they're made. And if you know where the lanterns in this room were bought, I'd love to hear the story behind them.
