The short version: Musk mocked the hack with emojis, and CZ, Binance's co-founder, pointed to Binance's stake in SpaceX and asked him to stop.

The hack hit on October 29, 2026. North Korea-linked hackers took about $6.3 billion from Binance, and the FBI blames North Korea. Musk posted "Everyday is Zeroday" as the news broke. Then he replied to CZ's warning about clicking email links with laughing and fire emojis. Reporting from Yahoo Finance, via BeInCrypto and Inc. describes this as the trolling.

CZ replied on X: "Elon, have a lot of respect for you, but bad time to troll. Please stop." He added that Binance's SpaceX shares, from its $500 million investment in the Twitter takeover, are worth more than $1 billion, and asked for "a little support." Binance co-CEO Yi He also joined in to defend the exchange's finances.

The numbers are contested. Binance says it has covered 90% of the losses, and reports say about $3 billion of the stolen assets were frozen. CZ puts the remaining gap at about $2 billion, per BeInCrypto. Treat both figures as company and commentator claims until Binance publishes its reserve count, which reporting says should follow once withdrawals restart.
