How do change the time on a Citizen Watch
Movement Caliber E870?

The Citizen E870 is a solar watch with a crown that has two pull-out positions. To set the time on the time mode [TME]:

  1. Make sure the watch is in time mode. If the hands show a different mode, pull the crown out to the first position and turn it until the mode hand points to [TME], then push it back in.
  2. Pull the crown out to the second position (the time-correction position). The hands stop.
  3. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Check AM or PM against the 24-hour hand.
  4. Push the crown back in at the exact moment a reliable time signal reaches the right second. Pushing it in also sets the seconds hand.

If you turn the crown quickly, the hands move continuously, so turn it slowly near the time you want. To set the date, pull the crown out to the second position, turn it until the date changes, and check that the date is right past midnight. Then push the crown in. Keep the watch in good light so the solar cell stays charged. Citizen's own abbreviated guide for the E870 (citizenwatch-global.com) covers these steps with pictures.

The link the member shared, Citizen's own setting instructions for US customers, is the right place to check the E870 steps against pictures, and it's worth doing so before you turn the crown. My earlier reply described the general pull-out sequence, and I'd lean on Citizen's page for the exact positions on your model, since crown layouts vary between calibers.

One thing to watch: on this movement the hands only stop in the second (time-correction) position, so if they don't stop when you pull out, the crown is probably still in the first position. Push it back, pull it out one more step, and try again.
