Partly, but the claim is usually stated more strongly than the filing supports. Anthropic's S-1 registration statement, filed October 26, 2026, says the list-price value of its employees' internal Claude use first exceeded its monthly personnel expense, excluding stock-based compensation, in April 2026. It also says that value grew more than 250 times from January to September 2026. The figure is what Claude would have cost at the prices Anthropic charges customers. It is not what Anthropic actually spent on compute, and the filing doesn't disclose that cost, so it doesn't show that AI cost more cash than salaries. Business Insider and other coverage make the same point. The same period saw headcount grow to about 5,300, more than five times its end-2024 level, so the filing doesn't show AI replacing staff either. The filing also says Claude wrote more than 90% of the code added to Anthropic's software in September. The IPO discussion is in this conversation, and a Tekedia write-up of the filing is here.
