أفاويه

  • /ʔa.faː.wiːh/

Where it comes from

Borrowed from Ge'ez አፈው (ʾäfäw, “scent, fragrance”), pl. አፈዋት (ʾäfäwat), if not borrowed from Old South Arabian. But also with parallels in Cushitic. The singular فُوه (fūh) is back-formed and possibly invented by medieval dictionary authors to place the word under a “root”. Doublet of فَوْعَة (fawʕa), فَوْح (fawḥ), فَوْخ (fawḵ).

noun أَفَاوِيه · ʔafāwīh · فُوه · الْفُوه · فُوهٌ
