Where it comes from

A modernly preferred form for إِرْبِيَان (ʔirbiyān) accepted as the conventional shape in Classical Arabic, which has been inherited from Proto-Semitic *ʾirbay- (“locust”), together with Eblaite 𒅕𒉈𒈝 (ir-bí-núm /⁠ʾerbênum⁠/) also giving evidence of an original *-ān component not found in other Semitic attestations.
