Via Aramaic טנגירא / ܛܢܓܝܪܐ (ṭangīrā) from the Middle Persian ancestor of Persian تنگیره (tangire); thereafter the Arabic colloquials formed the most current variant طَنْجَرَة (ṭanjara). The variant תִּיגָרָא (tīḡārā) from the ancestor of تغار (taġâr) is present as تَيْغَار (tayḡār).
