Kurzform des englischen Substantives technology ^(→ en), Einer Geschichte zufolge entstand der Begriff „Techno“ in einem Frankfurter Plattenladen. Dort soll 1982 ein Mitarbeiter alle Tonträger mit elektronischer Musik in ein gemeinsames Fach sortiert und „Techno“ darübergeschrieben haben.
