filter bubble

Where it comes from

Coined by American author, activist, and entrepreneur Eli Pariser in 2010.

noun filter bubbles

  1. A state of intellectual isolation resulting from exposure to only highly personalized Internet content (which is insular and polarizing). The other problem with algorithms is that they trap us in what is known as “filter bubbles” — the digital equivalent of an echo chamber, in which our incoming sources of information have been so customized to us that they simply confirm and reinforce what we already believe.

Similar: circle jerk, echo chamber, hugbox, mutual admiration society
