De onde vem

In the Torah, the name traces back to two events in which Abraham and Isaac respectively made a pact of peace with the Philistine king Abimelech; the former named the adjacent well after the seven ewes which were given to the king as an assurance that he was the one who dug it and to who it belongs after it had been seized from him (Genesis 21), while the latter derived it from נִשְׁבַּע (nishbá, “to swear”) and שְׁבוּעָה (shvuá, “oath”) with them sharing the same root (Genesis 26).
