Further from Prakrit उअरुज्झदि (uarujjhadi) with apheresis of the first syllable, from Sanskrit उपरुध्यते (uparudhyate, “to be obstructed”), from उप- (upa-) + रुध्यते (rudhyate), from the root रुध् (rudh, “to block”) or alternatively from Prakrit *अरुज्झइ (arujjhaï) from Sanskrit आरुध्यते (ārudhyate, “to be obstructed”) from the same root. Cognate with Gujarati ઊલઝવું (ūlajhvũ), Punjabi ਉਲਝਣਾ (ulajhṇā).
