k'rei

Where it comes from

From Hebrew קְרֵי.

noun

  1. The form of a word in a Hebrew text as it is traditionally pronounced when read aloud, when the written form (k'tiv) differs. Furthermore, as the reader may know, the Hebrew text's k'tiv (written tradition) and k'rei (reading tradition) differ for occasional words; where this occurs, our edition first prints that word's k'tiv letters in small type, followed by the pointed k'rei letters in normal text type.
