medium shot

noun medium shots

  1. A shot (snapshot or series of film exposures) taken from enough distance to show a character from the waist on up, wider than a close up but tighter than a medium long shot. The film then cuts to a medium shot, not of Marguerite but of Faust looking in the girl's direction with the devil posed somewhat artistically behind him, and the two begin to sing.
