Da alcunha "Chumbergas", atribuída ao governador de Pernambuco (1664 — 1666), Jerônimo de Mendonça Furtado, por seus bigodes 'à chomberga', isto é, no estilo de Friederich Hermann Schönberg. Mendonça Furtado era acusado de uso imoderado de bebidas alcoólicas e comportamento indecoroso, sendo a ele associada a origem de termos como 'chumbergar', 'chumbregar', 'xumbergar' ou 'xumbregar', sempre com sentido pejorativo.
