închega

Where it comes from

Probably from a Vulgar Latin verb *inclagāre (compare Aromanian ncljeg, ncljigari), from metathesis of *incoāglāre (compare Romansh inquaglier), from *incoāgulāre, intensive of Latin coagulāre (compare French cailler, Italian cagliare). Alternatively, simply from Vulgar Latin *clagāre < coāgulāre, with the prefix în- added later in Romanian (and therefore a doublet of coagula, a borrowing).

verb a închega 1st conjugation · încheagă · închegat · închege · a închega · închegând

  1. to curdle, thicken, condense, coagulate

    Similar: coagula
