descăleca
Where it comes from
Inherited from Vulgar Latin *discaballicāre, from dis- + Late Latin caballicāre, from Latin caballus (“horse”). Compare Aromanian discalic, discãlicari or Albanian shkalkoj. Sense 2 may have been influenced by a migratory or nomadic Central Asian people that entered lands occupied by Romanians, as a similar meaning of choosing a place to set up and live temporarily exists in some Turanian cultures for the term “dismount”.
