escală
Where it comes from
Borrowed from French escale, itself from Italian scala, (in this sense) taken from Medieval Greek σκάλα (skála), from Latin scala, whence the Romanian inherited doublet scară (“stairs, ladder”). Also a doublet of scală and schelă.
noun escale · escală · escala · escalele
- stopover, port of call
