gâdila

Where it comes from

Probably ultimately from Ottoman Turkish قیدیقلانمق (gıdıklanmak). Compare Aromanian gadil, Bulgarian gădeličkam, Albanian gudulis. Other theories also existed, including the Latin catulīre, or *cattellāre, a derivation from the aforementioned Bulgarian, or a Dacian substratum word of Indo-European origin, compare *geid- (“tickle”).

verb a gâdila 1st conjugation · gâdilă · gâdilat · gâdile · a gâdila · gâdilând

  1. to tickle

In English

  • tickle to touch in a manner that causes tingling sensation
  • titillate to excite pleasantly
