licări

Where it comes from

From a substratum word. It is unknown exactly from which source, but it is ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *leuk- (“light”). Another theory derives it from lucoare through an intermediate *lucuri, or from Vulgar Latin root *liculire, or it may be tied to Latin lucere. A less likely source is Vulgar Latin root *liquorare, from liquere. Cf. Aromanian licuredz (variant licãrescu).

verb a licări 4th conjugation · licărește · licărit · a licări · licărind

  1. to gleam; to sparkle

In English

  • flicker to burn or shine unsteadily
  • twinkle to shine with a flickering light; to glimmer
