noră
- /ˈnorə/
Where it comes from
Likely formed analogically with a feminine suffix from the older form nor, from Vulgar Latin *nŏrus, from Classical Latin nurus, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *snusós. Compare Aromanian norã. Alternatively, like most of the other Romance cognates, derived from a Vulgar Latin form *nŏra, although this would have likely yielded a diphthongized result in Romanian, presumably *noară. The plural form nurori appears to be influenced by analogy to surori, plural of soră (“sister”).
