noun spinosauruses · spinosauri
-
A large, extinct, carnivorous dinosaur of genus †Spinosaurus, with a long snout like that of a crocodile and with a sail on its back. It is considered to be the largest theropod dinosaur.
The first spinosaurus remains were discovered in Egypt in 1911, but they were destroyed in 1944 during World War II. A lot of what is known about spinosauruses comes from skull material found in Morocco and Algeria in later years.
