Tybi
Where it comes from
Borrowed from Ancient Greek Τυβί (Tubí), from Egyptian t-A-a-b-t:Z5-W3:ra (tꜣ-ꜥꜣbt, literally “the offering”). Compare Coptic Ⲧⲱⲃⲓ (Tōbi).
proper noun Tobi · Tubah · Tubi
- The fifth month of the later ancient Egyptian civil calendar and Coptic calendar, corresponding to the first month of the season of Peret. Since 25 BCE, when the calendar was reformed to include leap-days, Tybi has been in roughly January. But it is also worth remarking, that the 11 Tybi vague of the 15th Tiberius is the 25 December (a. d. 28), just thirty Julian years after the Nativity, if this was referred to 28 Augustus (b. c. 3) and to the day which the Church ultimately consecrated to the commemoration of the Nativity.
