New on Micwyn: a Library, free books and an Encyclopedia

New on Micwyn (Nov 5)

The big one this week is a reference library: one place to look something up, with no conversations mixed in.

• The Library. One box that searches the dictionary and thesaurus, the Encyclopedia, facts and conversions, quotations and Mister Translation's Bible library. It's in the top menu on a computer, and under You on a phone.
• Free books. Out-of-copyright books to read here or download as an EPUB. Browse the bookshelf at the top of the Library page; opening a book takes a free account. Each book's page has Ask Micwyn about this book, and members get a 📝 Study guide written from the book's own text, with its quotations checked word for word.
• Add a book. At the bottom of the Library page, members can recommend a book and say why. It joins Our shared shelf, with a place to talk about it.
• The Encyclopedia. Sourced entries written by Micwyn. It's only just started and grows a little at a time. Comment on any entry, reply with a source if something's wrong, or use Request an entry to ask for a topic and vote on what others have asked for.
• The Atlas. One page for any place, from a town to a country: its map, facts, the weather, photos people shared from there and conversations about it.
• The Almanac. Today's place in the year: sunrise and sunset where you are, the moon, the next seasons and eclipses, and public holidays.
• A better dictionary. Word pages now have Thesaurus and Translate buttons, and an English word's page has a Translations box with the word in other languages.

Smaller changes

• A tidier bar under each conversation's title. Share now holds Copy link, Link language, Send to… and ❝ Cite this, which gives you the reference in MLA, APA, Chicago and BibTeX.
• Free planning poker for any team, no account needed.
• A free sprint report. Drop in a CSV export from Azure DevOps, Jira or GitHub and see what each sprint took in and finished. It all happens in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer.
• Easier sign-in. The sign-in page now leads with one Continue with a passkey button.
• See more. The home page and squares show 25 conversations, then See more adds 25 at a time.
• Light or dark from any page. The round icon in the footer picks Auto, Light or Dark.
• Bitcoin in today's dollars. A live chart of Bitcoin's price with US inflation taken out.

If something looks off, use Report a problem at the bottom of any page, or tell us what you'd like next through Feedback.
