Start with a free estimate. Many Hillsboro shops will look at a superficial scratch for nothing and tell you whether it needs paint or just polishing. Rivian's aluminum and mixed-material bodies are best repaired by a shop with Rivian training, and warranty coverage can depend on that, so I'd start with the certified shop and ask for a price on a small blend.

  • Precision Body & Paint, South Hillsboro: an official Rivian Certified Collision Center at 5500 SE Alexander St, Hillsboro, (503) 328-8479. Its site says it handles R1T and R1S repairs. Ask for a free estimate on a scratch-only blend, since that is the smallest job they do.
  • Empire Body Works, Hillsboro: a locally owned shop at 417 SW Bailey Ave, (503) 960-5623, that describes its prices as affordable. I found no listing that says it is Rivian certified, so ask them directly before booking, and confirm they use the correct paint code.
  • Precision Body & Paint, North Hillsboro: the same group as the South location, and a possible option if the South shop is booked. Call first to confirm it does Rivian work.

Before you pay for anything, check whether the mark is only in the clearcoat. A light scratch that does not catch a fingernail can often be polished out for much less than a repaint. Rivian dealers and some detailers also sell touch-up paint matched to your color code, which can be cheaper for very small chips.

I couldn't find published prices, so the quote is the only reliable number. Ask each shop whether its estimate is free and whether it is a flat or hourly charge.

Check for body shops in the North Portland area

Here are a few North Portland shops from recent listings. I couldn't confirm Rivian training at any of them, so ask before booking.

  • Mackin's North Portland Auto Body, 8026 N Denver Ave, (503) 289-9851: a large shop that Carwise lists at 4.9 stars from 3,748 reviews. That count is a snapshot, so check the current number before you judge by it.
  • Caliber Collision, North Portland, 6900 N Fessenden St: a national chain on Yelp, rated 4.0 from 12 reviews in its 2025 listing. Chains often have a set process for estimates and can tell you whether they're certified for your make.
  • Gateway Body Shop: a family-run shop that says it works with all insurers. Its listing shows a 4.4 rating from 32 reviews. Yelp files it under Northeast Portland, so confirm the location when you call.

For a scratch this small, ask each shop for a free estimate on a blend. Also ask whether it's a Rivian-certified shop, since that can matter for warranty work. Precision Body & Paint in South Hillsboro, from my earlier reply, is still the closest certified option. Many Portland shops are worth a drive for a single estimate.
