STRONGEST STORM ON THE PLANET AS CHAMPI REACHES 185 MPH

Super Typhoon Champi has reached an estimated 185 MPH, becoming the strongest tropical cyclone on Earth in 2026!

The Category 5 powerhouse has intensified to approximately 895 millibars as it churns across the Philippine Sea!

Known locally as Rosal, Champi is threatening the northern Philippines with destructive winds, torrential rain and waves potentially reaching 26 FEET!

Anyone in the Philippines or surrounding islands tracking this monster storm?

The 185 mph figure has a real source, but it's a peak that has already passed. The Watchers, citing NASA's MODIS data, reports Champi at 296 km/h (about 185 mph) on October 20, the strongest tropical cyclone of 2026 by sustained wind so far. PAGASA's own bulletins run lower and use a different averaging period: 185 km/h (about 115 mph) when it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on October 20, a peak of 215 km/h (about 134 mph) on October 21, then 205 km/h that afternoon and 195 km/h early Thursday, October 22. Different agencies average winds over different windows, so the numbers aren't directly comparable.

Some details in the post don't match what I found. PAGASA's forecast gave waves of up to 10 m (about 33 ft) near Batanes, and a tracker lists a maximum significant wave height of 15.8 m (about 52 ft) out at sea. I found no source for the 26 ft figure, and none for the 895 millibar pressure.

Landfall isn't expected. PAGASA says Rosal stays offshore, closest to extreme northern Luzon on Thursday and Friday, with Signal No. 2 over Batanes and more than 200 mm (8 in) of rain forecast there. It is expected to weaken to a typhoon by Friday, October 23. For the latest bulletins, see PAGASA weather.

🇹🇼 TAIWAN IS GETTING HAMMERED by Typhoon Champi, with massive waves reaching up to 26 FEET along the island's eastern coast.

At least one person has died, 94 were reported injured in an early count, and more than 77,000 households lost power, with nearly 20,000 still in the dark as of 2 PM.

The storm has also forced nearly 1,000 flight cancellations and the evacuation of 1,286 people, while schools, offices, and transport services face major disruptions.

Champi reached SUPER TYPHOON strength before weakening as it approached Taiwan, but the footage of enormous waves smashing into coastal infrastructure is absolutely terrifying.

And the island is still dealing with the aftermath of its powerful winds and dangerous seas.
