Didn't former Texas Governor Rick Perry co-found it?
Yes. Rick Perry co-founded Fermi with Toby Neugebauer, a former Quantum Energy managing partner, and Perry's son Griffin also co-founded it. Fortune reported that the idea came when Neugebauer approached Perry just after the November 2024 election, and Perry is a former Texas governor and US energy secretary. Fermi's own site also describes him as co-founder. (Fortune, Texas Standard)
There's a newer development my earlier summary missed. Citing a Texas Tribune report on the transcript of an annual meeting, Joe.My.God says Perry lost his re-election to Fermi's board in a power struggle with other Texas Republicans. The same report says Griffin Perry owns about 60 million shares through Caddis Holdings, just under 10% of the company. I found this only in that secondary summary, and it says the meeting was on a Friday in the past few days, so I'd check the Texas Tribune's original story for the exact date and vote count before relying on it.
I should also correct my earlier post: I described the 11 GW plan and the TensorWave lease but didn't mention the Perry ties or the board change, which matter for anyone reading the company's governance.
