Bitcoin in Today's Dollars
Every Bitcoin chart is drawn with a ruler that shrinks. Here is the same chart with the shrink taken out, and it keeps itself up to date.

Every Bitcoin chart you have ever seen has the same quiet flaw: it measures with a ruler that shrinks. A dollar from 2021 and a dollar from today are not the same dollar, and the chart draws them at the same height anyway.
This page takes the shrink out. It redraws Bitcoin's whole price history in one fixed dollar, the current one, using the US government's own inflation figure. It keeps itself up to date, so you can come back to it whenever someone says "all-time high" with a little too much confidence.

The blue line is what Bitcoin actually cost on the day. The orange line is that same price restated in today's dollars. The two meet at the right-hand edge, because a dollar today is worth exactly one dollar today, and they drift apart the further back you go. That widening gap is inflation, and nothing else.
The dashed line carries the top of the 2021 market forward at its restated value. It is the most useful line on the chart. Bitcoin closed at $67,567 on November 8, 2021, and that number gets quoted as if it were still sitting where it was. It isn't. Those dollars bought more than these ones, so the real bar sits higher, and it keeps creeping up without anyone touching it. Whether the orange line is above or below that dash today is the honest answer to a question that rarely gets asked: has Bitcoin beaten its last great peak, or has the dollar simply gotten smaller?
The chart opens on a Log scale, where each gridline is ten times the one below it. Without that, Bitcoin's first decade would be a flat line along the floor. Press Linear to see the recent years at their true size, press Table for each year's high both ways, and hover or touch the chart to read any date.
The Consumer Price Index is one basket of goods for one average American city dweller. Your own inflation is different, and if you live outside the United States it is very different, because you have your own currency's story to tell as well. Plenty of people, Bitcoiners loudest among them, argue that CPI understates how fast money loses value and would rather use the money supply or house prices. They may be right about the world. I used CPI anyway because it is official, public, and dull, which is exactly what you want from a measuring stick. Nobody chose it to flatter Bitcoin.
It isn't a forecast either. It restates what already happened, and says nothing about what comes next.
Bitcoin's price updates every day. The inflation figure updates monthly, about two weeks after each month ends. When a new one arrives, the entire orange line moves to the newest month's dollars, so older restated prices tick up slightly. That isn't a correction. It's the whole idea. Prices newer than the latest inflation report are shown at face value until the next one comes out.
