What the agencies actually said, since the first post only had the headline:
- How bad it is: the two flaws (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, nicknamed PHP2Shell) let anyone on the internet run their own code on a PHP server, no login needed. Details leaked before the fix came out.
- US (CISA): patch now. If you can't, or you're still on PHP 8.1 or older (no fix is coming for those), take PHP sites offline until you can.
- UK (NCSC): if patching will take too long, consider taking the system offline until it's fixed.
- Already happening: the Dutch NCSC took its own website offline, and the Dutch government logins DigiD and MijnOverheid went offline as a precaution. Cloudflare says it saw attacks before the patches were public; CISA said it hadn't seen any when it published.
- The fix: PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35. On managed hosting or a Linux distribution's own packages, look for your vendor's update.
